Add a token

Learn how to add tokens to your wallet.

One of the first things you'll likely want to do as a Freighter user is add a token to your wallet. Once you do so, you will be able to send payments, swap tokens, or perhaps deposit into defi protocols like Blend.

To add a token, first open Freighter and navigate to the home page.

Select the icon in the upper right corner of the balances section and select "Add a token".

Enter the token name or address. Freighter uses stellar.expert for token search capabilities, and filters results against lists curated by trusted members of the ecosystem such as Palta Labs or UltraStellar. Results that match an entry in these lists are displayed as "Verified" while those that don't are displayed as "Unverified".

When you select "Add" from the search results, you'll be provided more information on the token and asked to approve. As an additional security measure, tokens are scanned by Blockaid and can be flagged as suspicious or malicious.

Adding some tokens, specifically Stellar assets, will reserve, or lock, 0.5 XLM in your account until you remove that token. To learn more about base reserves, see How much XLM do I need in my wallet?. If you don't have an additional 0.5 XLM available, you will need to add more.

Selecting "Approve" will add the token to your lists of balances.
